Eagles Question of the Day:
Should the Eagles trade for Maxx Crosby after the Baltimore Ravens backed out of their deal? Head over to The Feed and weigh in with your answer and explanation!
Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles news and links …
What signing Romeo Doubs in NFL free agency means for the Patriots – Pats Pulpit
While Doubs is an upgrade to New England’s wide receiver room, the depth chart still could use upgrades as a whole. This signing will not stop the Patriots from exploring for those pieces — potentially in the trade market for a player like A.J. Brown. Signing Doubs in free agency allows New England to keep all of their draft capital to potentially make a move, while they also regain some leverage in any potential deal by adding an upgrade to the roster.
Even with Romeo Doubs in the fold, the Patriots might not be done at receiver – MassLive
With Doubs in the fold, does that mean the Patriots are out of the receiver business? Will that deal prevent them from pursuing A.J. Brown? According to a source, not necessarily. The Patriots haven’t folded up the tent on the pursuit of Brown. Of course, if the Philadelphia Eagles don’t relax their demands, and continue to insist on a reported 2027 first round pick, and a 2026 second-round pick for their top receiver, it might not matter. The Patriots prefer not surrendering that type of asset haul. Signing Doubs essentially provides Mike Vrabel & Co. a measure of leverage. They’re not as desperate to land the Eagles receiver. So what transpires on the Brown front is still to be determined.
Riq Woolen was the missing piece in the Eagles’ secondary – BGN
Immediate reactions to the move were excitement and appreciation for what he’ll add to the cornerback room alongside Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean. The group instantly becomes one of the “stickiest” in the league, and should compensate for any drop off from losing guys like Jaelan Phillips and Nakobe Dean.
2026 NFL free agency grades: Riq Woolen, Romeo Doubs – ESPN
Woolen is fascinating because he is not widely considered to be among the game’s top cornerbacks, but his numbers are right there with the best. Over the past four seasons, among outside corners with at least 500 coverage snaps, do you know who allowed the fewest yards per coverage snap? Woolen, at 0.7, one spot ahead of new teammate Quinyon Mitchell and two spots ahead of 2024 Defensive Player of the Year Pat Surtain II. And yet Woolen has been benched multiple times and shared work with Josh Jobe at times last season. Woolen has moments where it goes wrong — such as in Week 1, when he was beaten badly by Ricky Pearsall for a 45-yard gain on the 49ers’ final drive before allowing the game-winning touchdown, or when he committed an almost-cataclysmic taunting penalty in the NFC Championship Game ahead of what would have been a fourth-and-12. To that last point, Woolen’s penalty rate is high (0.8% over his career, which ranks in the 80th percentile) but not disqualifying. Ultimately, it’s hard to argue against Woolen’s results. Over a single season, there can be reasons a corner puts up a strong yards per coverage snap result even without playing well. For example, if they play opposite an awful corner on the other side, if their team has a good pass rush or, as with Seattle last season, the unit is incredible overall. But that has certainly not been true for Woolen for his entire time in Seattle.
Eagles free agency grades: Riq Woolen, Johnny Mundt, and Grant Calcaterra sign on Day 2 – PHLY
This is a very understandable and fun gamble for Howie Roseman to make, but I’m going to be a little more cautious than my handsome colleague here. Woolen over the past few seasons has not been the same Woolen who earned the outsized reputation he did as a rookie Pro Bowler with six interceptions. He lost favor in Seattle and bounced in and out of the lineup at times over the past two seasons. The defending Super Bowl champions, with their defensive guru head coach and a ton of cap room to spend, chose to prioritize bringing back Josh Jobe over retaining Woolen, despite the latter being a homegrown player. Which is to say, this is no surefire home run. But given those cautions, this is an understandable bet for Roseman to make and an even better framing for the deal given the variability. The upside is immense – having the surefire best secondary in football is very much on the table (though there is real work to be done at safety). Inking Woolen to a one-year deal instead of a long-term commitment is ideal not only because it incentivizes Woolen to maintain his focus on a prove-it deal but also because it doesn’t get in the way of contract extensions that are likely to come for Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean next offseason. For a turnover-obsessed team, adding a playmaker like Woolen to what promises to be a target-heavy spot makes some extra sense.
Albert Breer’s Free Agency Notes: What to Expect of Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins Deals – SI
Woolen’s market also didn’t materialize the way he’d hoped, hence the one-year show-me deal he decided to do to team up with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in Philly. The good news is he has a chance to earn his way to $15 million, which is closer to the average-per-year he was shooting for, and then hit the market next year with experience having played in another defensive scheme that’s spread across the league (just like the Ravens-style scheme Mike Macdonald runs is everyone, Vic Fangio’s is too).
Seahawks free agency 2026: Cornerback Riq Woolen signs 1-year deal with Eagles – Field Gulls
If the Seahawks were interested in keeping Riq then a 1-year, $15 million contract wouldn’t have been outrageous, but through his highs as a rookie in 2022 to some of his lows with lapses in concentration and untimely penalties (not to mention two brief benchings by both Pete Carroll and Mike Macdonald for separate on- and off-field matters), it’s evident that Seattle was ready to move on even though he’s statistically been a great corner. […] What’s ironic about this whole situation is the fact that Woolen lost his “starting spot” (while still having a high snap count) to Josh Jobe, whose career began with the Philadelphia Eagles before he was waived in 2024 and picked up by the Seahawks. Jobe just signed a multi-year deal to stay in Seattle, while Riq is the one going to Philly.
Double Dip at TE – Iggles Blitz
Since the Jags cut him, Mundt won’t count against the comp pick formula. After adding a rugged, physical blocker Howie decided to go in the opposite direction. He re-signed Grant Calcaterra to a 1-year deal. Ugh. I thought we were done with Calcaterra. I was wrong. Howie drafted him and still believes in Calcaterra. He is a good athlete and can be a solid receiver. Maybe he’ll be a better fit in the new offense. The Eagles needed bodies at TE so I can live with Calcaterra coming back. There is still a chance that Dallas Goedert gets re-signed. Both Mundt and Calcaterra are role players. I like the TE class in the upcoming draft and think the Eagles will add at least one. It feels like the position will be upgraded, which was needed. The TEs were a disappointment last year, even with DG’s 11 TDs. Their overall play just wasn’t good enough.
Eagles free agency: Riq Woolen highlights Day 2 activity; who’s available for Day 3? – The Athletic
Jaquan Brisker, Bears (No. 63). A second-round pick from Penn State, the 27-year-old Brisker hits the market after starting all 52 games he played in four seasons in Chicago. He can blitz, plug the run and cover deep, although the Chicago Bears paid big money for Coby Bryant to seek an upgrade at safety.
The 49ers added more depth along the OL after signing a former Eagles player – Niners Nation
Per Sports Info Solutions, Toth’s lone bad game came against a Brian Flores defense. He had four blown blocks in that contest, with three of those coming against the run. Toth never had more than one blown block in any other game. In limited action, Toth had a 2.4 blown block rate on 337 snaps. Toth all but confirms Spencer Burford won’t return to the 49ers. He’s likely to compete with Connor Colby and Nick Zakelj for the swing backup interior offensive lineman. And if there are any injuries at left guard or center, Toth could fill in in a pinch, just as he did in Philadelphia.
Need to Know! Meet new Cardinals’ OG/OT Matt Pryor – Revenge Of The Birds
Pryor made $1.36 million last year with the Eagles. His Pro Football Focus grade for this past season was a nice 71.6. He had a single penalty, allowed three sacks, and four pressures, and played every offensive line position except for center. Make no mistake, this is a very large man. He has long arms with a massive frame. Being that big, he does need time to navigate his defenders, which is why he is best suited for guard, where he doesn’t have to worry about fast first steps.
Cowboys free agency: Dallas agrees to terms with QB Sam Howell – Blogging The Boys
Most Cowboys fans assumed that Joe Milton would be the number two guy on the depth chart behind Dak Prescott. That will probably still be true, but now he has a little competition from a free agent. Dallas also has Will Grier as a reserve/future player.
Washington Commanders Free Agency: Another pass rusher added on 1-year deal – Hogs Haven
The NFL’s legal tampering period started at on Monday at noon. The Washington Commanders have agreed to terms with four pending free agents from other teams, and they’ve added another one before the new league year starts today at 4 pm. There was interest reported in Patriots OLB K’Lavon Chaisson, and now that has turned into a 1-year, $12 million deal. They reportedly added Chargers DE Odafe Oweh on Monday with a 4-year, $100 million deal. Washington also re-signed DE Deatrich Wise and Drake Jackson, and they will have Dorance Armstrong and Javontae Jean-Baptiste coming back from injury.
NY Giants news: FB Patrick Ricard agrees to terms; what it means for New York – Big Blue View
New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh continued to stockpile players from the Baltimore Ravens, his former team, on Tuesday evening as New York reportedly agreed to terms with six-time Pro Bowl fullback Patrick Ricard. The two-year deal with Ricard will reportedly make him the highest-paid fullback in the NFL. Per NFL insider Mike Garafolo, the deal will be worth a maximum of $8.5 million, with a base value of $7.63 million that will make Ricard the league’s highest-paid fullback on a per-year basis.
Ravens to sign EDGE Trey Hendrickson to 4-year deal – Baltimore Beatdown
The Ravens backed out of their trade for star edge rusher Maxx Crosby on Tuesday night, stirring much controversy around the NFL. That will only escalate as Baltimore pivots to signing Trey Hendrickson on what is expected to be a four-year, $112 million deal, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Ravens back out of Maxx Crosby trade after failed physical – SB Nation
Those mock drafts with the Las Vegas Raiders adding a pass rusher with the No. 14 pick they received as part of their trade with the Baltimore Ravens involving Maxx Crosby? Those purple “Crosby 98” jerseys you were hoping to order as a Ravens fan? You might want to shelve them. Days after the Raiders and the Ravens agreed to terms on a trade involving the star pass rusher, the Ravens have pulled out of the potential deal, just hours ahead of the NFL’s 2026 league year officially beginning. As first reported, by Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Raiders addressed the news with a brief statement.
