There’s been some chatter this week about the Philadelphia Eagles potentially making a trade for Las Vegas Raiders edge rusher Maxx Crosby.

The buzz comes from Hondo Carpenter, who covers the Raiders for Sports Illustrated. Here’s what he had to say:

“I am telling you there is a lot of interest in Maxx Crosby. Two teams, specifically, nuclear hot — the Eagles and the 49ers. I still believe there are two, maybe as many as three, other teams absolutely in play for Maxx.

Carpenter adds that neither Crosby nor Raiders management seem to be in a rush to get a deal done. But whereas last year Crosby was untouchable in the Raiders’ eyes, he’s now able to be had and teams are interested in him.

Of course, this much we already know since Crosby was originally traded to the Baltimore Ravens earlier this year before the deal fell through due to a failed physical.

Still, it’s interesting to hear the Eagles mentioned in connection to Crosby. It’s certainly not the first time it’s happened.

The read here, however, is that Crosby to the Eagles is unlikely to happen. There’s always the “never say never” caveat with Howie Roseman involved. Perhaps the Raiders’ star defender can be had for cheaper than expected.

But I tend to think the Eagles are satisfied with their edge rusher situation right now. They paid not an insignificant price to trade for Jonathan Greenard … before then extending his contract on a deal worth $30 million per year. The team is bullish on Jalyx Hunt, who could reasonably make another big leap in his development. Nolan Smith’s long-term future is less than certain but the Eagles did pick up his fifth-year option for 2027. The Eagles paid real money to Arnold Ebiketie in free agency and they recently added A.J. Epenesa to the mix as well.

All told, I don’t see Crosby realistically fitting in. I think the Eagles would rather keep the pick(s) and money that would be attached to acquired him. Greenard was the Eagles’ big splash at edge rusher. I think they’re set there now, barring any injuries.
